About Us
Welcome to Botterblomme! We're so glad you're here! We are husband and wife team, Jaco and Christina van As. This business is our dream, creative outlet and occupation. The name, Botterblomme, is a blend of both of us. Christina's nickname growing up was Buttercup. Jaco is an Afrikaner originally from South Africa. Botterblomme means Buttercups in Afrikaans (his first language).
We first got the idea of selling our handcrafted items when friends encouraged us to sell the gifts we were making them. One year, we decided to join some friends and sell our creations at the farmer's market. We did well enough that we decided to rent a small shelf space in a local shop called Stone Cottage. This little shop was started by a group of farmer's market vendors over 10 years ago. They wanted a place to sell year round. Not long after, we started selling on Etsy and then created Botterblomme.com. We love dreaming up and creating quality products. We also really love working together - yes, we're weird like that!
Many of our early (and current) products were (are) made from leather and exotic wood scraps from a local archery business. Jaco also works as a Bowyer (traditional longbow maker). They have a lot of leftover material that would have ended up in the landfill. Many of our products come from Jaco's inspirations on how to repurpose these pieces.
We are a small business that does everything on site at our headquarters in Montana. We personally most of our items (magnets are printed for us) and do not dropship, so you can have the assurance that each item you order has been inspected and touched by us before it is sent to you.
Thank you for visiting and learning more about us. We look forward to getting to know you better too. Please join our VIP community and follow us on social media so we can continue to get to know one another!
All the best,
Jaco and Christina
